I would recommend using the latest version of Internet Explorer to view the Lantern because that is what I have tested it with.

If you use an older version of either browser then things  may look a little weird !

Hello! Thanks for stopping by.  I have developed this site in order to provide information on the great Scottish people and their culture, and in particular the MacFarlane Clan.  I am part Scottish (among other things) and am the descendant of a MacFarlane.  I am a member of the Clan MacFarlane Society, Inc. and on these pages you will find lots of stuff about the Clan and links to other things, all Scottish of course. Remember, if it's not Scottish it's crap! This site's name, in fact, is derived from a part of the MacFarlane's history. At a turbulent period of the Clan's history, they frequently raided the lowlands. From the fact that these raids usually took place on clear nights, the full moon came to be known as "MacFarlane's Lantern."

Update (6 Aug. 2002):  Not really an update to any of the content (sorry it's been so long), but my other cat, Jock (he was really my Mom's cat) had to be put to sleep today so I placed a small ribbon here to mourn his passing.   He was like a family member to us and will be missed as such.  I guess he is with Mr. Kitty now in a better place.  Both he and Mr. Kitty leave a big void in my family's lives... one that won't be easily filled.  I'm just glad they lived a long life around people who loved them.

Update (23 Mar, 2002):

Updated and added some new links on the links page... check out the Scottish Weapons section.

Update (11 Jan, 2002):  Bliadhna M Hàth Ùr (Happy New Year) everyone!  Sorry it's been a little while since the last update, but the holidays always seem to be very busy.  Updated a few link here and there, but plan on doing a lot more soon.

Update (5 Nov, 2001):  Took the banners off the bottom of this page and put them on the links page... that should help this page load a little faster.  I also added a flash intro to the index page, but it is rather large, so I'm going to work on reducing it a little.

Update (18 Oct, 2001):

Added a links page which cleaned up this page a lot.  You can now see all of the links that were on this page by clicking on "Links" on the main menu.

Update (16 Oct, 2001):  Not much of an update, but my cat died last night so I placed a small ribbon here to mourn his passing.  He's been part of my life since I was about 7 years old and I loved that cat dearly.  So many memories of my life would be incomplete without him.  I know he was just a cat, but he was more like a family member to me and I "knew" him better than anyone.  I'm just glad he didn't suffer much in the end and he is in a better place now.  He lived a full life around people who loved him and I will always be happy about that.

Update (14 Oct, 2001):

Yet another update... continued the updated design of the site... made the Scotland 2001 page a little "nicer" by thumbnailing the pictures.   Also, you can vote for the Lantern at the Top 100 Scottish Sites by clicking on the banner at the bottom of this page!   Also you can now type www.the-lantern.com or  www.macfarlaneslantern.com into your browsers and get here.
